HONEYBERRY (Lonicera caerulea)

A deciduous shrub growing to 2m. It is from Eastern Europe and very hardy. It produces yellow flowers from April to May which are followed by tasty blue/purple berries. These are one of the earliest crops of the season, these sweet blueberry-like fruits have been eaten for years in Siberia and can be enjoyed fresh, or used in jams, pies and muffins. The fruit will ripen in early June, in the first or second year after planting and will continue to do so year-after-year for up to 75 years.
The Honeyberry is not too fussy about soil but likes full sun and a well drained site. Ideally for maximum fruiting 2 plants are needed.
